About Me

I’m a solicitor (lawyer) specialising in complaints, claims and civil actions against the Police – helping individuals pursue justice after experience of unlawful arrest, excessive force, or other forms of misconduct

My interest in civil liberties and justice began at an early age and has shaped the course of my personal and professional life ever since. Even before I went to university, I was drawn to the relationship between state power and individual rights.

While still at school, during my A-level studies, I completed a dissertation titled Opposition to the Gloucestershire Rural Police in the Mid-Nineteenth Century (appendix and exhibits here).” The project explored the social and economic changes brought about by the Industrial Revolution and how these led to the creation—and resistance to—the first rural police forces, particularly in Gloucestershire. I examined the way law enforcement developed from informal parish constables to professional policing, and how these changes were met with suspicion and opposition from ratepayers, agricultural labourers, and tradespeople who feared the loss of local control.

That early research deepened my interest in the dynamics of power, accountability, and public resistance to state authority, and laid the foundation for my later academic and legal work.

At university, I became a card-carrying member of Justice, the UK’s leading human rights and law reform organisation. This was a time when some of the most serious miscarriages of justice in modern British history were coming to light—cases like the Birmingham SixGuildford Four, and Stefan Kiszko. These injustices reinforced my belief in the urgent need for rigorous scrutiny of policing and the criminal justice system.

Since qualifying as a solicitor, I’ve specialised in civil claims against the police and other state bodies. My work includes representing individuals who have suffered false imprisonment, unlawful arrest, excessive force, and other abuses of power. My goal has always been to hold public authorities accountable, and to ensure that ordinary people have the means to challenge injustice, however powerful the institution involved.
